Android Corporate Exchange Setup - Username or Password Incorrect

I spent a lot of time ensuring ActiveSync was working properly for a client on Exchange 2010--they have a lot of iPhones and I wanted to be sure everything top-notch.

When attempting to activate a Motorola Droid 2 with the Exchange server, I kept receiving the error "Username or password incorrect" despite the fact that the username & password were both in fact correct.  I was also unable to enter a server name no matter what.

I managed to solve the issue by entering a completely incorrect email address (user@blah.com) before finally being prompted for the server.  After entering the FQDN of the mail server, I was able to successfully authenticate the account.

  1. I came to this website from a google search of my same exact problem! Despite the fact I had the correct username and password, I kept getting an error message. So I did the same thing, and misspelled my email address and boom. I was able to go on and sync up my school email.

  2. Yeah, seems like some sort of bug in the Android software...sadly, it's one of many.

  3. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to rolling this out as part of an enterprise training. "Please enter fake@zzblahzz.com for your e-mail".

  4. I'm trying to sync my school email and I'm getting the same problem except I am able to enter the server name. I still have no idea how to get it to work on my Galaxy Nexus. I wonder if it's an ICS bug.

    1. Jorge, I don't have an S3 but I do have an HTC with ICS..basically on the accounts page when you select corporate or Exchange email, the first page is where you input the dummy. After it can't pick up any settings (and are able to enter a server) you can change the email address to the proper one. Hope this helps.
